Documentation

At appointments, Writing Center consultants are eager to help students with documentation. In addition, students have the option of checking out hard copies of style guides and reference books from the Writing Center (see the "Print Resources" section on the Resources and Exercisespage). Below are also some helpful links to provide students with online documentation help.

  • APA Style. This link from the Purdue University OWL shows how to use the American Psychological Association style when writing papers. It includes information on writing in-text citations, creating a reference list, and using endnotes/footnotes.

  • Citing Laws and Court Cases. This page gives examples and instruction for citing laws, acts, court cases, and other similar documents.

  • Internal Citations. Need help citing references within your paper? This page from the Writing Center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison includes information about several different styles including APA, MLA, APSA (American Political Science Association), and CBE (Council of Biology Editors).

  • MLA Style. This link from the Purdue University OWL gives instruction and examples showing how to write parenthetical citations, include others’ quotes in your writing, cite electronic sources, and create a works cited list according to the Modern Language Association Format.
