Students entering Utah State’s education program are required to pass a writing exam and are graded on accuracy, fluency, clarity, development and elaboration of ideas, and logical organization. Students are allowed to take the exam twice before working with the Writing Center.
Before the exam:
- Watch the online orientation video, created by emeritus director, Charlene Hirschi.
- Use the essay prompts to practice writing in a situation similar to the exam.
If you do not pass the exam:
- Pay the $100.00 fee at the Cashier’s office to account #MWRI.
- Call the Writing Center (435-797-2712) and schedule an appointment to meet with Star Coulbrooke, the Writing Center director.
- Work with one tutor throughout the semester who will help you target your specific educational goals. The tutor will track your progress and report to Star.
- Meet with Star to assess your progress. She will decide if you are ready to take the exam again.
